- If you have a blood test or other sample taken in the Royal Hospital Chelsea medical centre, and sent to the hospital for analysis, the results will be sent back to the surgery when complete. The turnaround time for these tests generally varies from 24 hours to about a week; usually you will be told at the time of the test how long to expect to wait.
- Likewise, if the Royal Hospital Chelsea medical centre has sent you for X-Rays, scans or special investigations in the community clinics those results will also be sent back to the surgery when the reviewing clinician has reported them – usually you will be told at the time of the investigation how long to expect to wait for the result to be sent.
- The medical centre reviews all results received of the above tests/investigations and will normally notify you of any results which require follow up with the doctor or other practitioner, and will indicate how soon that follow up is needed.
- However, it is equally important that if you have not heard back from the practice after waiting the expected time for the result, you should check with us that your results have been received and dealt with so that you get the correct follow up requested by the doctor/practitioner.
Non-urgent advice: Please Note:
Tests/investigations/procedures organised in hospital as either an outpatient or inpatient are not usually reported to the medical centre and need to be reviewed and the correct follow-up determined by the clinician who organised the test.
In these circumstances you need to ensure you have the correct follow up with the clinic which organised the test(s). Even if the result of such tests are available to the GP, it is generally not good practice for the GP to interpret and analyse the results if the relevant specialist has not yet communicated a follow-up plan, and will usually not do this unless special circumstances apply
